Akash Gupta is working as a Research Associate in Jindal Global Law School where he teaches “Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration” course. He completed LL.M. in International Commercial Arbitration Law from Stockholm University. During the LL.M. programme, he was selected to be a member of a team to represent the Stockholm University in the 26th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Vienna. The Vis Team cracked into Top 16 out of 372 teams from all over the world and received Honourable Mention for the Best Memorandum for Claimant. To prepare for the Vis Moot, the team participated in the Vis Pre-Moots in Bucharest, London, Munich and Stockholm. In the White & Case London Vis Pre-Moot, the team was runners-up in the competition. In Bucharest Pre-Moot, he received the award of Most Versatile Oralist. Moreover, he acted as a volunteer at several high-profile events in Stockholm, namely the “Future of Arbitration in Europe” jointly organized by the Stockholm University and the University of Oxford, as well the ICAL Alumni Conference 2018: Navigating the Muddy Waters of Modern Arbitration.
Before the completion of LL.M., he coached NLU-Odisha Team for National Law School Trilegal International Arbitration Moot, 2019. The team qualified for the memorial round, reached Quarter-finals and received the Best Memorandum for Respondent. After coming back to India, he conducted Two-Days Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution in Chanakya National Law University, Patna where he trained 200 students. In addition, he also coached the Lloyd Law College Team for Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, 2019. Before starting his teaching career, he attended two Faculty Development Programmes and honed his teaching skills.
He graduated from Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirappalli in 2018. During B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) programme, he represented the University at national and international moots. He was awarded the Colin J. Wall Spirit of the Moot Award at 13th Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Hong Kong. Out of approximately 1000 students, he was awarded the 1st Ram Jethmalani Academic Excellence Awards 2018 for Students in the Moot Category. In addition to interning at India’s top law firms like Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., Kochhar & Co. and Juris Corp, he also interned with the Asian International Arbitration Centre, Malaysia.
His research interests are International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Arbitration, Negotiation and Mediation.
