Prof. (Dr.) Corendea is credited for his seminal book called Legal Protection of the Sinking Islands Refugees (2016), and for initiating and developing the ‘International Hybrid Law’ concept (2007), which synergizes human rights, environmental and refugee/migration law in international climate law.
Prior to this, Prof. Corendea worked at the United Nations University in Germany and he has also served as Lecturer at University of Bonn in Germany. As an AXA Postdoc Fellow, his research focused on implementation of international law in traditional legal systems in Asia and the Pacific. He currently also acts as a Senior Legal Research Fellow with the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) in Canada, and Lecturer for University for Peace (UPEACE) in Costa Rica.
Prof. Corendea recently authored The Planned Relocation Guidelines- A framework to undertake climate change related relocation– (2018), a first of its kind on the topic of relocation in response to climate change impacts and the Displacement Guidelines in the context of climate change and disasters (2019), an innovative approach to developing domestic climate legislation, both polices for the Government of Fiji.
