INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

The CIPTEL is being established with an objective to lead and excel in the area of patents, trademarks, design protection and copyright law. In particular the CIPTEL desires to gain a better understanding of the new and evolving areas of intellectual property rights such as the patent protection in pharmaceutical and software industry, trademark protection to non-standard marks development of copyright law in the ever increasing market of copyright infringement.

This CIPTEL will bring new perception in the understanding of the clusters of legal doctrines-especially patents, trademark, copyright and design protection by using economic analysis to predict the effects of various legal rules. Law and economics approach has significantly developed in the area of intellectual property rights but rarely used in the Indian context. The CIPTEL will certainly encourage the use of economic analysis and in particular the application of game theory in its research work and research publications.
