Swapnil is trained in sociology. He has submitted his doctoral thesis at Centre for the study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His doctoral research focuses on the politics of nativism in Maharashtra. He received his M.Phil degree (Sociology) from Centre for the Study of Social Systems, JNU. He obtained his M.A degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He specializes in political sociology and his research interests include: Globalization and Social change, social identities, social stratification, ethnicity, and social movements. He has published papers based on his interest areas and fieldwork in various journals.
